HISTORY :

spoilers for everyone in the Jones family, pretty much!

Mal was born an only child and her parents didn't plan on having any more due to how stressful her birth was on Felicity, who wasn't a very strong lady in the first place. This was okay for her, since whenever she got bored she could just go a few blocks down to visit her cousin Skeeter, who was one year older than her and usually very fun to hang out with. He taught her how to use roller blades since she wasn't comfortable on a skateboard, and they would race around town all day and cause plenty of child mischief. Since Rex and Felicity were siblings with a decent relationship, the two families saw each other often. Mal looked up to Rex, but found Joy a little odd. This wasn't too much of a problem, however, since she was still very young and unaware of what was going on with Skeeter's parents.

One day, Mal tried to visit Skeeter, but all she heard was a lot of screaming and arguing. It didn't take long for her to get scared and run back home without ever seeing her cousin again for many years, as her parents suddenly got up and moved out of Bless City before she could say goodbye to any of her friends. She only found out later that her uncle was dead, and no one would tell her if that was the reason that they moved. Felicity was very shaken from then on and August was not allowed to take on the search for Joy himself, the culprit being family and all. Mal was left to grow up in confusion, but managed to stay positive despite the loss of her beloved uncle. Throughout her teenage years she figured out she was transgender, which triggered an identity crisis that made her change her appearance nearly every day, becoming someone new until she found a persona she liked. She would always try to be someone cooler, wiser, and more mature than she actually was. Her parents weren't sure about how they felt on the subject, but allowed her to go crazy with dying her hair and buying new clothes anyways. Half because they wanted to be supportive, and half because they were always too exhausted with life to say no.

Mallory's connection with Skeeter was pretty much cut off after she moved, but she did call him at least once a year to see how things were going for him. He still had his best friend and he seemed to be doing decently (though his voice always sounded flat and depressed over the phone) so she tried not to worry too much.

When she turned 21, she moved back into the city and got her own small apartment and a job at the local coffee shop. She had found out that Skeeter was in a rather successful zombie slaying team, but didn't interact with them much. She was still trying to find herself, after all. What she didn't know was that her aunt Joy was still on the run, and much more insane than she was several years ago when she murdered her own husband. After failing to get Skeeter away from his friends several times, Joy targeted the only other child she knew in her family tree. The one that had just moved back into the city.

When she met Mallory again, Joy aimed to murder her, of course. Maybe it was to hurt Skeeter or Rex, no one really knew. On her way to work (very early in the morning when it was still dark), she was cornered by her aunt in an alleyway. She hadn't seen Joy in so long that she didn't even recognize her until she spoke her name. Mal instantly knew that something was up, and tried to run away when she saw Joy pull out a gun. Her attempts to escape failed over and over as she tripped and bumped into things and finally landed in the grasp of a zombie that had gripped her right arm and was not letting go any time soon. This spooked Joy, causing the criminal to flee before she could even do what she came to do. Perhaps she thought that Mal was already done for, so she wouldn't need to do the murdering herself. That's what the younger girl thought, too. As the monster attracted others of its kind and tore at her flesh, she passed out and didn't wake up until days later, when she had already been admitted to the nearest hospital. She never found out if the person who saved her was a zombie hunter, citizen, or something else entirely, but she was alive by some miracle and not infected with the virus. Skeeter had heard about her admission and so did her parents, since they were all in her room when she awoke. Of course she would never have a right arm again, but she handled the fact pretty well for someone of her age. She was a fan of a little change, anyways. Even a change as drastic as this. Joy died the same night of Mallory's accident, so she was never charged for what she did. Perhaps death was enough.

Since then, Mal and Skeeter had picked off their rivalry where they left it almost a decade ago and still act as close as siblings. She visits the Team Boss base every once in a while to hang with her cousins family and get into heated discussions about movie directors with the leader himself. She made friends with Hill, who worked int he same place her father used to be at and visited the shop she worked at every now and then for coffee and donuts. All in all, Mal is doing just fine. She's still trying to figure out who she is.
